Coming together as a team, let's take a moment to pause (10 secs), and let's begin with a quote from...
Matthew 7:24 - "Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."
And from
Dean Jackson - "Listening is an art that requires attention over talent, spirit over ego, others over self."
These quotes show the value of Listening. Listening is a great way to live Compassion, making it real in our lives today! So, as we reflect today, let's refresh our memories on the meaning of Compassion, and take a closer look at how Listening brings it to life.
Compassion
Compassion means, Service in a spirit of empathy, love, and concern
We know there are many was to live Compassion: so let's focus on just one, Listening.
So let's ask ourselves this question...
When have I been able to make someone feel fully heard? Pause 10-20 sec before moving on.
I'd like to invite us all to make Listening a reality in our lives today by...
Offering our presence and support before giving our advice and input.
Listening isn't new to CHRISTUS Health, in fact, we see this same type of Compassion in our heritage...
Did you know that in 1866, Bishop Dubuis spent countless hours on horseback, traversing all of Texas under the hot sun, to visit and tend to those entrusted to his care? First hand experience of their harsh living conditions, illness, and poverty, moved him to seek help from our sponsoring congregations. Today we listen to and see our patients with this same compassion.
