As we come together as a team, let's take a moment to pause (10 secs), and begin with a quote from...
Jeremiah 29:7- "Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper."
And from
Pope Benedict XVI- "Beside the good of the individual, there is a good that is linked to living in society: the common good. It is the good of 'all of us; made up of individuals, families and intermediate groups who together constitute society."
These quotes help show the value of the Common Good. Seeking the Common Good is another way we embody our value of Excellence, making it real in our lives today! As we reflect, let's remind ourselves of the meaning of Excellence, and take a closer look at how promoting the Common Good helps brings it to life.
Excellence
Excellence means, high standards of service and performance.
We know there are many ways to enliven Excellence; but let's focus on just one, the Common Good.
So, let's ask ourselves this question..
Do I value and acknowledge the expertise and contributions of others as often as I could? Pause 20 sec before moving on
Let's make the common good a reality in our lives today by...
Identifying a member of the team to recognize and thank for their specific contribution to the success of our team and ministry.
Seeking the Common Good isn't new to CHRISTUS Health, in fact, we can find examples of this type of Excellence in popular culture as well as our heritage...
Did you know that in the 1960's, Fred Rogers, star of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, encouraged children to "Look for the helpers" around them? You will always find people who are willing to help. In 1866, the first three Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word arrived from France with a similar mindset. They were skilled in the excellence of nursing, but they knew they were unable to respond to the needs of their new community alone.
