Coming together as a team, let's take a moment to pause (10 secs), and let's begin with a quote from...
Proverbs 31:8-9 - "Open your mouth in behalf of the mute, and for the rights of the destitute; Open your mouth, judge justly, defend the needy and the poor!"
and from
Pope Francis - "Poverty calls us to sow hope. . . . Poverty is the flesh of the poor Jesus, in that child who is hungry, in the one who is sick, in those unjust social structures."
These quotes show the value of Commitment. Commitment is a great way to live Dignity, making it real in our lives today! So, as we reflect today, let's refresh our memories on the meaning of Dignity, and take a closer look at how Commitment brings it to life.
Dignity
Dignity means, Respect for the worth of every person, recognition and commitment to the value of diverse individuals and perspectives, and special concerns for the poor and underserved.
We know there are many ways to live Dignity; so let's focus on just one, Commitment.
I'd like to invite us all to make Commitment a reality in our lives today by...
Noticing and attending to the needs of the poor or uninsured.
Commitment isn't new to CHRISTUS Health, in fact, we see this same type of Dignity in our heritage...
At Christus Santa Rosa, we have an associate who is a passionate advocate for his patients, especially the most vulnerable and undeserved. He has often stood up for the right action to take in difficult cases, while others pushed hard to try to get him to back down. He also leads a medical mission group to Mexico each year, serving hundreds of patients and families who would otherwise not get care.
Dear Jesus, I see you in the faces of the poor and uninsured. I see you in your poverty, humility and your willingness to forget yourself. When I serve them, I serve you. Please don't let me be so comfortable that I lose sight of this truth, but help me live this mission with joy. Amen.
